CCPA Counselling Book Award

National Honour for Local Professional

Counsellor Katherine Paxton was in fine form on May 16. The Sooke-based counsellor had a full night’s sleep at home following the return trip from Charlottetown, PEI where she had accepted a prestigious award.

Paxton’s publication on the topic of autism spectrum had earned her the Counselling Book Award from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

“The book was my Master’s project, instead of a thesis,,” said Paxton, whose practice is conducted out of a Government Street office in Victoria.

“What got me into the field, however, was working as a behavioural consultant where you focus mostly on behaviours. I was dissatisfied with what I was able to do to service families, working solely in one area, because people have thoughts and feelings as well as behaviours.”
